My Soul Dishes

Have you ever tried beef tripe soup? The name might sound a bit strange, right?

Today, I want to talk about my comfort food, tripe soup!

It might not look very tasty, but trust me, whether it's a cold winter day or a hot summer one, having a bowl of this soup makes you feel super healthy. It's the best dish ever.

Actually, there are other dishes like this in different countries, like Papaitan in the Philippines, Haggis in Scotland, and Menudo in Mexico. They all use beef tripe, just like our tripe soup. But Korean tripe soup is special because it's spicy

and has a deep flavor.

It's been a traditional Korean food for a very long time.

When you look at the history of tripe soup, it's hard to say exactly when people started eating it in Korea. But we think it became popular among common people during the Joseon Dynasty. People made tripe soup because it was practical. Back then, it was hard to get meat,

so they used every part of the cow, including the tripe, to make sure nothing was wasted.

Looking back, it’s amazing how our ancestors were

so wise not to waste food, and they turned it into something so delicious.

Usually, when you go to a tripe soup restaurant, they serve it with spicy pepper paste, a dipping sauce, and some pepper. It’s tasty on its own,

but I like to add a lot of the spicy sauce to make it even spicier!

Oh! Just talking about it makes me want some more.

It's easy to find tripe soup restaurants, but finding a really good one can be tricky.

My favorite place is near Uijeongbu Station. I’ve added a map below.

The restaurant is usually busy, especially at lunchtime and dinnertime,

so try to go during a less busy time!
